As above, only part of the golf i've been disappointed by so far are the OEM brakes. Just has OEM pads in as far as i can tell, but i find the braking very soft. Maybe it's just coming down from the brakes in the leon, i don't know!

Anywho, loads out there, ferodo, EBC etc, but what'd the massif recommend?

Go for the ferodo racing ones (y)
Thats what I run on my wee car and I would drive on a bit ;)

EBC Colour stuff is Sh it ;)

Also used both below

Mintex racing pads are also a good job.

Also fast road Pagid pads well worth a punt.

I take it you mean the DS2500 pads?

Interesting about the EBC, why do you say that?

Yes the DS2500 are the dogs, hence the cost of them :worried:

Have tryed the EBC Stuff and they fall well short of the above,
Would go as far to say standard factory oe pads are better.

Fair enough, cheers for that!

Out of interest, what brakes are you running on that 1.3 of yours? :p

Discs are alright, but i know what i like, and Tarox isnt in that list

Brembo blank discs and the pads i listed above

Almost impossible to cook them on the road unless your riding the brake or being a ****

New EBC Bluestuff NDX are getting better reviews than DS2500 etc with the subaru guys over on scoobynet. I know the old EBC were awful but their new blue stuff ndx seem to be good

The main reason for that is your driving a mk2 golf with uprated brakes Eddie, light car and big brakes means you will stop fast, simple physics. Also how many of these brake tests have you carried out and up against what cars exactly?

The two leading brake specialists on Scoobynet are running these new EBC Pads on their own cars, speaks volumes when they can pick any brake pad out there. Also DS2500's have been around a long time, things have moved on! People who have used both the DS and the Bluestuff NDX much prefer the EBC, have you used both? :confounded:

EBC & Black Diamond are master marketeers - stick with the real deal like Ferodo, Mintex, Pagid, Tar•ox, Carbone Loraine, and an American one the Evo guys talk a lot about on Lancer Reg forums (forgotten the name).

Not strictly as simplistic as that - tyres are as big a part of the equation for deceleration as pad compound.
Big brakes, as in more pots and larger discs, are to minimise brake fade from repeated high speed braking - one or two big stops on a B road won't justify their expense.

I was given a full set of EBC Yellowstuff by the boss at EBC (he offered freebies to anyone who wanted to give a honest and frank review). Well, they were ****e.

The rears never bedded in (no surprise), and were useless, just built up a glaze on the disc and rusted up. They ruined the rear discs, which were basically new before the Yellows went on.

Fronts, again wild problems with the pads rusting to the calipers (not a problem with Ford or Apec pads), and again problems with the pads not stying bedded in. They squealed like no other pads I've used, and again ruined the discs when they jammed up.

Upgraded to a £20 set of Apec pads, brakes are better, don't squeal, don't jam, don't ruin the discs.

Obviously tyres are a big part, the reason I mentioned the lightness mainly is because there arent that many other cars as light as Eddies with similar brake set ups, hence the main reason he has good brakes. It wotn jutfiy their expense no, your right, but I never said that. It will however stop you quicker. Hence the reason for mentioning that.

Anyway we are going slightly off topic, I have used Pagid, Ferrodo, Brembo, Carbone Lorraine and others, all were good. I just mentioned the EBC because everybody was immediatly writing them off, their new compound is up there with everything else mentioned.

Here is the words from Bob at Aztec Performance, one of the biggest suppliers of discs and pads to those in the Subaru and Evo World.

"After over a decade in performance cars, I believe we finally have a brake pad that works as well on the road as it does on the track.

A pad that works from cold with low noise, no fade, no sparks and a very high co-efficient. Primarily designed as a full on race pad, it works just as well on the road and has a very long lifespan.

No longer do you need to make compromises when it comes to choosing a fast road pad that can be driven on track or vice versa.

It took a bit of convincing to put these on our modified Porsche 911 Turbo which was previously fitted with Pagids, but we are so glad we gave them a try. The car is a daily driver and gets used on track also (hard!).

Hands down the best pad we have ever tried, and we get to try all sorts here.

Don't just take our word for it, lots of people have tested these and every single person has been happy. People have come from all sorts of different pads including Pagid, Performance Friction etc etc."

So he has just described DS2500's

In the lotus and vx220 world everyone is raving about Carbon Lorraine rc5s, before them it was pagid rs42s which i have and think are fantastic.
Don't know how that translates to other more normal cars though as we love our Kumho ku31s which evo hated.
