Thanks for all the advice, been really helpful, not just for classic insurance but insurance overall. The ridiculous prices I was getting, I thought I was the only one and I was doing something wrong, but clearly not! Lol.

A140 will have to do for now bais! :innocent:

Rover's!
If it cheers you up I payed £2400 for a 94 1.4 Escort third party, fire and theft when 18 without any NCB on my first policy on my own and epic post code of safety, that was ten years ago mate!

R plates should really be renamed "Shafted by the insurance company plates"!

Good luck finding classic insurance, I've been trying to find it for under 25's and I'm 21, rang up the company and told them the car and they said 'no sorry that car is to powerful for you' even though I've been driving for 3 years now. Best of just paying the price that all other young drivers have to pay.

What insurence company was that with lee I'm in a similar boat 21 trying to get a classic Landrover insured

I had a s3 Landy insured last year (as my only car and me aged 21 then) with Flux Direct for about £550. Footman James are supposed to be back in the market for younger drivers too, used to use them until they packed it in for a couple of years.

I'd try Flux, they were the cheapest I could find, though the customer service isn't great.

Cheers lee ill give them a try, any Insurence company I've tried won't insure me due to age or any that will require the black box to be fitted... And stupid restrictions, and none will give agreed valuation even though I have an independent valuation certificate

Hi mate

you wont get classic insurance, you will have to-take out a normal policy

last year i insured my mini over the summer under my mums name and it cost me 1200 quid to insure it for the summer, which i didnt mind as i landed myself in a nice wee job

canceled it and headed of to uni and tried the insurance this year expecting the same.

im 700 quid fully comp with all mods declared on a mpi mini cooper.

you are just going to have to suck it up for a while longer, maybe try a 998cc mini but it will be slow.

As said, it helps but you dont need to be in the farming industry to have a policy with the NFU, sure they have a branch in the centre of Lisburn too,
Limited milage will work wonders with getting the price down!

In alot of cases fully comp is cheaper. Not sure why. Get a quote for both.

I only need about 1k miles of mileagr if even

Also one policy we had with the NFU offered laid up insurance, when we took the car off the road for the winter, they insured it as fire & only (so long as it was garaged) this reduced the policy to around £5 a month. Just a matter of adding the 3rd party status and its ready for the road again! Worth a try
