is there a specific place on the underside of the seat this goes, or is it just anywhere that'll cause it to close when some sits on the seat

Don't think that's a pressure switch mate. It's the seat position sensor. So if some granny has the seat stuck right forward the airbag won't go off and destroy her face.
IIRC it should have a black cover over it with two clips that clip on to the seat runners on the same side as the seat belt stalk.
Does the passenger side not have on that you could compare it to?

ah i see - it was loose when i took the old tensioner off. never looked at the passenger side as i havent been back near it until i get a replacement tensioner, was more a case of prempting for when it arrives. if pass side defo has one also then ill just use that as a guide. cheers
