Get enclosed nuts if you can. They probably will corrode still in winter salt, but even if they didn't they would still be covered in baked on muck and dirt.

I've basic open ended ones on the way but I'm considering enclosed. They're cadmium plated 8740 chromoly steel, so shouldn't really see any corrosion, however dirt and grit I'd rather not get on the threads.

I'm watching a few sets on eBay hoping to get a seller offer to encourage me to pick a set up

When I was looking at extended wheel studs I was advised to go with the arp studs and use copper open nuts. Went a different route in the end so didn't get either

In the end went with just black coated steel closed wheel nuts that did accommodate longer studs

Good info here! I’d say leave them if just aesthetics, but that’s a good point about getting dirt and salt on them. Even with corrosion inhibitors, better safe than sorry. I’ve seen STi ones that look good but also pricey. Fitment looks a lot better…

Pardon my naïveté, but how’d you get them on without taking the hubs off? Is there a hole they can be installed through on the hub? Thanks!

I looked at the copper coated nuts, but they're £130 for a set Struggled to justify it. I'm looking at a few deep nuts, all steel ones as I had aluminium nuts on a previous car and didn't have much faith in them. Shame I'm back from Japan now, they're near half the price there.

Very easy on the front. Remove the caliper and disc, and they simply hammer out. They all came out easily, though the ARP ones being longer required me to tap the dust shield back a little to give enough clearance. It only needed moved very slightly, along the side where the caliper sits. I left the car out of gear on the lift so I could rotate the hub easily to remove and insert them all from this side

You should be able to see the dust shield sitting a little further back here.

Yeah I never looked at the price "theyre really good we use them on all the racecars" was enough to tell me they weren't gonna be cheap

Some more updates

Picked up a brand new gearknob whilst I was in Japan as they were fairly cheap over there. The original one had a bit of wear on it (But overall wasn't too bad).

Whilst there never was a Legacy STI, I'm long term wanting to forge and up the power and make what I believe an STI Legacy would have been should it have existed. All we got was the "Tuned By STI" version which was just a styling pack, Brembo brakes and lowering springs. I've already got the brakes anyway. Also picked up some genuine Subaru side stickers when in Japan to make it a complete faker.

Out with the old Bilsteins, and in with Tein Flex Z Coilovers

The old suspension is still in incredible condition for being 17 years old, but the saggy rear end always bothered me

Going to drive it for a few days and decide on whether to bring the front down a little more, or bring the back up.

So far the coilovers are still very compliant and comfortable. If anything, a little softer out of the box than the Bilsteins so I will stiffen it up a fraction too.

I was tempted to bring it down even more, but seeing how it settles for now. Don't want it running the arch liners, so might bring it down a little at a time until it does, then pull it back up.

You could well do, I sold the silver one to a guy in Bangor. Twin exhausts and a towbar should make it fairly noticeable.

Yeah, will settle a bit with driving. On the deck this time of year is dodgy anyway - snow, hidden debris on the road etc.

I had my daily on the deck until the Mrs bust the sump and subsequently wrecked the blower lol

Put the winter wheels on this evening. They seem to fit well with the 7mm spacer on the front. I only have 3mm on the back, but I'm waiting on more extended studs for the rear coming, then I'll space it to match.

The Dunlop winter tyres are noticeably louder than the Eagle F1s that are on the Rays wheels

You ever start one of those jobs and say "What have I done?"

Well, I decided to mount a boost gauge near the steering wheel (As I want the dash uncluttered, and vents still vents) so started trying to mount a Gauge pod on the steering wheel cowl. I'm reserving the cubby hole on the dash for Wideband and Oil Temp / Oil Pressure, so this was the only location left.

Unlike the Impreza which has a range of cluster mounted gauge pods to choose from, there is nothing available for the Legacy. The cluster is also a different design, so I don't think it would be feasible

Roughly where I want it, but recessed in a bit for better view of the car's cluster

The pod is too long and would hit the dash as the steering column is adjustable, should it be put all the way in. So I cut a bit of the middle out to shorten it

This is where it starts to go downhill..... And I demonstrate I've no real idea what I'm doing here other than just winging it and seeing how it turns out

Roughly where it will sit. ALOT of finishing needing done to this. I can't really recess any further as it will start to sit on the stalk bodies

Now I'm on the JB Weld. Might just scrap this whole idea

Wee mount like this might work for you? Or why not an A pillar gauge pod? could have all your gauges directly to your right?

There is a guy in England that makes all sorts of customised clusters and trim pieces for fitting gauges and whatnot. I have some I was planning to use on Mitsi. He starts from OEM parts, and it all looks really good. You really can't tell the difference quality wise from OEM parts and it all just fits right in.

I don't know if he would have something "off the shelf" for your car, but he can make whatever you want. Just send the parts to be modified if he doesn't have them.

I'll see if I can dig out a link...

Going to keep going with this and see if it turns out ok. Still a bit of work in it. I'll then at least be able to do a 2nd version learning from the 1st if I don't like it.

Have a 3d printer here too and just got a new laptop I might throw solidworks onto

Plenty gauge pod STL's online to use as a base then modify for your cowl profile. I'd use ASA for that. Should hold up well and prints out nicely.

MIGHT be rescuing this attempt.

Put another slather of JB Weld onto it to fill in gaps, the sanded it back

I then put some P38 Isopon on it, sanded that back, and put some primer on it

If the primer settles and doesn't react after a few days, I'll give it a sand back and move onto high build primer

Been continuing to work away on this gauge pod.

I'm about 7 layers of high build primer in, sanding after each coat, then onto 3 coats of satin black

The first coat maybe went on a little thick as it was too glossy, so I dusted the next 2 very lightly to dull the gloss down a bit, and add some texture back in to match the interior plastics
