Kirkistown Race Meeting Saturday 25 July 2009

The HRCA Historic Sports Cars were a welcome and colourful addition to the July Championship Car Races at Kirkistown with Jackie Cochrane taking the top honour in both races with his mighty 650bhp Sunbeam Tiger. On both occasions it was Stephen Doyle the runner up in his Lotus Elan.

A new star on the scene, Craig Davidson with his black Mazda scored the double in Libre Saloons, splitting the Porsche GT3s of Mark Gilmartin and Philip Shields, with Gilmartin having the misfortune to spin at the Hairpin in both races while looking good for victory lane. The Fiat Abarths made their first visit north and Liam Denning and Simon Quinn were the race winners.

Formula Sheanes and Formula Vest in the absence of Formula Ford entertainment provided the single seater action with David Parks the man in  Sheanes and David O’Brien best of the Vees.

Roadsports and a race long duel between Mark Crawford and Stephen Donnelly, Donnelly losing out this time to the Radical driver and a poorly supported Tracksports race featured Wayne Douglas and Philip Shields in the Juno Ireland cars taking the top two spots.

Superkarts again entertained at the July Championship Car Races at Kirkistown, with races for both the 125 and 250 gearbox machines and it was a double for Justin Doherty in the 125s with Liam Fox and Stephen McAdam taking wins in the 250s.
