Round 5 of
the Ulster Drift Championship got underway at Bishopscourt Airfield Circuit on
Sunday 10th August. With the weather looking to be damp it was
smiles all round when the sun opened the clouds after the practice sessions for
most of the afternoon’s event.
Some
drives that stood out would be Paul Conlan who had to battle with no third gear
and not only managed to get into the top eight but also the semi final as well
with very limited speed. Tiny who drove the door handles off his BMW all day to
knock out Damian McBride in the top eight which was a big upset for the Chaser
driver and Rob Barnett who has always been unfortunate in the top 16, though
this time he and Ryan Tierney progressed to the final after a long hard season
of trying to achieve a podium place.
John Kerr
had a great second battle against Ryan but sadly John’s spin in the first run
was enough to put him on the trailer home whilst new comer Mark Carter in his
Ford Escort mk2 must have done a rain dance for his run against Sweeney, sadly
however the rain wasn’t enough to put off Sweeney and Carter certainly put on a
great show in an underpowered car.
At the end
of the day it was Tierney who took victory from Barnett whilst Conlan, despite
his gearbox issues took a well deserved third overall.
