Round 3 of
the Ulster Drift Championship got underway at Bishopscourt Airfield Circuit on
Sunday 8th June. With the weather looking to be damp it was smiles
all round when the sun opened the clouds all day. The first twin battle of the
day had round one winner Mickey Stock back from an off in round two determined
to win this event and he had a tough run against Brian Wilton and then Damian
McBride to get into the final. Damian McBride then went against Chris Brady for
the final podium spot with Damian coming out on top. Donal Sweeny overcame
engine trouble to battle into the top eight. Richard Bradley once again came up
against Alan McCord and lost out to the more experienced driver with Alan then
defeating Chris Brady to get to the final.
The final
battle saw round one winner Mickey Stock up against Round two winner Alan
McCord who was in a new Toyota Chaser and it was living up to be a great final,
on the first run Alan past in a non drift situation which marked him down but
in the second run he gained more points which led the lads into a sudden death.
Run three and Alan passes taking full points so Mickey needed something major in
run four. So run four and into turn one Alan ran wide and went onto the grass leaving
Mickey to pass and take the well deserved victory.
When asked
about his win Stock reported “That was awesome! This is what drifting is about
and what a battle Chubby (Alan McCord) put up” Mickey gasped “Brilliant,
absolutely brilliant”.
