Round 2 of
the Ulster Drift Championship got underway at Bishopscourt Airfield Circuit on
Sunday 11th May. With the weather looking to be 20 Celsius and a few
big names in attendance it was looking to be a great day from the start. The
first twin battle of the day saw Richard Bradley and Alan McCord up against
each other and this battle went into sudden death with Alan coming out the
victor. Hero Damian McBride was out in a new car and found it hard getting used
to the transitions allowing Robert Barnett to progress.
Round 1 winner Mickey
Stock walked his first battle but later tried to hard and ripped off his oil
cooler in a brush with the tyre wall meaning his defence was put to a stop.
Brothers Brian and Ian Wilton went head to head with Brian coming out on top
and progressing to finish a well deserved third overall. Donal Sweeny and Eamon
Close both progressed from the first heats to battle in the top eight with
Donal Sweeney getting through. John Kerr drove well to the top 8 but lost to
finalist Clive Heatherington who had to settle for second place one again after
Alan McCord came from his slow start to take an ecstatic victory.
When asked
about his win McCord reported “I got off to a slow start, but thankfully the
460bhp Western Building Systems car owned by Ryan Wylie, ran like clockwork to get me this
win” with a huge grin Alan continued “it has been a great shakedown for
Scotland (Knockhill Circuit) next weekend for a European Championship round,
where Ryan, once again will be giving me the East Coast Customs backed car”.
