Round 1 of
the Ulster Drift Championship got underway at Bishopscourt Airfield Circuit on
Sunday 6th April. With a big entry it was set to be a heated event
with everyone out to win, and win in style. Fergal McGovern in his E46 M3
engine manta was the top qualifier and showed, even in practice, he is a force
to be reckoned with this season. Sadly for him he retired with slight
mechanical problems. The lesser powered Vauxhalls of Graham McCorkell and
Damian McBrdie did exceedingly well with sixth overall for Graham and third
overall for Damian.
Clive Hetherington in his Nissan 200sx was driving well all
day and when he reached the final he met his match as after a sudden death run
against Michael Hughes driving a similar car he had to settle for second
position. Darryl Coen took 4th overall with his fresh looking Nissan
whilst Bushmills man John Kerr had to take fifth spot after spinning into the
overrun whilst up against Darryl. Michael was ecstatic with his well earned
victory and will be back to do battle once again for the top podium place.
