User Help for the RMS Garage

Images

Your photos for the RMS Garage must be no bigger than 120kb in filesize. You have to upload them from your own PC, and not remote link them (for example using [img] tags as you would in a thread). To be under the 120k limit your photo will probably need to be of dimensions 800x600 or smaller. But you're looking at this help file saying "I've resized them, they're bloody tiny, and still not under 120k." Don't worry, its all about setting the JPG Quality.

Still lost? Ok for starters download a decent easy to use piece of image manipulation software like Irfanview (download it for free from www.irfanview.net). Another handy one is the Microsoft Image Resizer, which adds a resize option directly into windows itself. Download it here.

Using IrfanView you can resize your image, change the JPG quality and save it well under 120k so it will fit nicely in the RMS garage. Here I am resizing a huge photo to 800x600:

Resizing your image

Then if I go into the File menu and select Save As, and select JPG from the file type list, I get the following options:

Setting the JPG compression

Note the area circled. Moving the JPG quality lower means a smaller file size but will result in a lower quality image. Between 75 and 80 is usually the best place to leave it. Et voila. You now should have an image that can be uploaded
