Looking an alternator, to fit 1990 mk2 rev1 N/A jap import Large body version of the alternator aparently, Anyone have one? Antrim/down area ideal but let me know what you have and where you are cheers
Get a reconned one here: http://www.tcbparts.co.uk/electrical.htm Highly recommended, have bought 2 from here, don't waste your time putting a 2nd hand one in. You'll need to take yours out to find out the correct one, too many variations. They can also supply you with a harness to convert the plugs, if required.
Because i couldn't be arsed taking one out. Disconnect the power steering fuse and keep the battery full charged and you'll be able to drive the car until you get a new alternator. You will have to take the alternator out though, to get a model number or at least find out what sort of plug it has on it. You could try Lee_SW20 on here, he was breaking an engine, and has more time to fap about messing with cars than i would have. Not sure if he is re-using the alternator on his engine swap though...
Not that I can think of off hand best bet is eBay or gumtree maybe get a cheap one there? Or sign up to mr2oc or imoc and see if anyone has one
AFAIK there is a big Toyota breakers in Galway, if you desperate, they usually have a host of MR2 parts, (they advertise in the auto trader) Also Traynors in Armagh had a small stock of mr2 bits, got a gearbox of them myself and they had a n/a gearbox there as the same time, stands to reason that they might have an alternator, Also keep an eye on gumtree one pops up every now and then for breaking, and ebay, You could look into refurbishing the unit you currently have as chances are it'll be cheaper, Thankfully my mr2 received an alternator before i bought it, at a cost of £400, labour is dear as they are a nightmare to get to
If i cant find one today or tomorrow ill be ordering off ebay, just would love to get her going well this week
If your buying off eBay I'd try to get an original one I bought a refurbished one before and it was no use I ended up having to pay for it to be refurbished fs lol
£98 refurbished with a years warranty from the link i posted. No need to pay those prices. In fact, at that money, why would you even bother fitting a 2nd hand one?
