VW GOLF MK4 1.4

    ive had a wee mk4 golf 1.4 for about 6 months now, just yesterday the car overheated but lost all its coolant at the same time, dont know if its the head gasket or theres a block in one of the pipes.

    anymore infor would be much appreciated

    fill her up with coolant and see if its leaking anywere before you start her, then start her and look for any water leaks as she heats up (there will be more pressure on the system them), did it overheat first then loose coolant or the other way around?

    thanks buddy but it was the thermostat gave in on me... shes fine now

    Sorry to bump an old thread here

    How did you find out it was the thermostat mate? Been having similar problems.

    Take the thermostat out and test it. In fact just replace it, should be cheap enough.

    just googled for days man, thermostat isnt dear to change although i just loosened mine up and it worked fine
