Right i'm after one of the above but trying to pick one. Any one have real world mpg on both of these i'm seeing anything from 230-400 a tank, for the miles i do i need about 350-400 to a tank min about 20k a year and don't want it to be at the pumps more than home lol.
Any advice on either only would be great :)

Interested to see what comes up here - fancied a vtr for a little project for times when the my BMW just doesn't fit the treatment it would get. There's 3 weeks when I'm flying up and down tracks in Antrim and I cringe at every pothole.

I can't be of much use about the cars specifically but how much fuel does the tank hold?

My current car has quite a small tank and when driven sensibly can get 300-350. If driven even relatively hard (on boost) it could be half that but I think it's around a 50 litre tank - or at least that's what I can almost fit into it.

I always liked both the VTR and VTS, but a members vts from on here from maybe 6+ years ago always sticks in my mind for shooting flames and sounded well.

If you were genuinely concerned about cost etc I'd probably opt for a vtr, cheaper running costs (to insure / tax) and I would hazard an educated guess that overall it would return better mpg but you may lose out on a portion of fun factor.

VTS is much more lively than the VTR but tax and insurance are higher for the VTS, VTS is harder on the juice if you like the revs. Hard to find a good one as alot of these are badly maintained, thrashed about etc,
Luckly though, I have a very tidy VTS for sale at the mo, its 2001, Blue, 73000 miles, totally standard apart from a stainless mongoose back box, Had new headgasket due to an oil leak a year ago and at the same time new timing belt and also a new heater matrix.
Full MOT as of last month, 4 new tyres about 6 months ago.

Thats what i'm stuck on at present, my friend has a vts say's he gets 400 till a tank. They've both got 45 liter tanks. Insurance for either surprisingly is next to no difference for me thankfully i'm only stuck on which to take.

I guess it comes down to firstly how much do you trust your friend and his quote on fuel figures ^:o)

But genuinely if I were you I would just shop for both and buy the best one that you find then irrespective of it being a vtr or vts, best overall condition for your budget would be my choice. (y)

I know his driving so i'd be near sure it's right. You points sound about right g4ost :). I suppose if it get's me on fuel too much i can sell up for a vtr and see.

i always had an itch for one of these something i have yet to scratch, nearly bought one of chris at autospares a while ago a VTR he had but decided against it cant remember why mind you think something cheap came up at the same time. i would personally go for the vts if insurance doesnt matter to you, the TU engines are thirsty beggers, plus you wont have to give the vts as much abuse as naturally it is a quicker car. Would love to get one but i think they are ruled out for me for a while too small :(

Thats all that swaying me to the vtr is the fuel if i can get 350-400 a tank i can live with it. Just need some real world driving mileage from both as most i've read is nearly the same.

In my vtr I used to only get around 300 miles to about 40 litres. Vts would be even less.

i had a vtr back in 08/09 and im currently driving a vts, cant remember what the vtr was like on fuel but im seeing around 300 miles to a tank in the vts at the minute and thats mostly short journeys with the odd bit of sporting! love driving these wee cars although i did have a 106 gti for a while also and IMO it was a better car and having the half leather interior was a nice touch too!

i had a 106 gti (basically the same as a vts) and whilst i can't remember mpg, it was such a fun wee car! made me smile every time i drove it.
well either smile or cry. it constantly broke down................but every young person needs to experience one!

Not a chance. Countryman has a 47l tank and it gets 450 miles and it's a super eco diesel.

i'd consider a 106. much nicer interior and a bit more upmarket look (facelift model)

Counts for nothing imo my megane was well into the 800-900's at a time still see a return of nearly 700, online searching brings up anything from 230 till 400 driving depending for the vts.

Might be selling my 106 gti in the next week or so if you're interested. 91k mot til February. never let me down and gets around 50miles to £10 whatever that is? Text me on 07545186375 for spec.

Great fun cars and i personally think they had one of the most reliable engines pug/citroen made

Ive owned a VTR, and went on to drop that engine into my 1.0 saxo. They go well and are great fun, but the VTS/106 GTI is what i would go for if i were to do it again, and of the two id go for the gti for the leather interior and the fact theyre a little rarer around here

40mpg bound to be possible in that wee light car with careful driving. The mini weighs at least 50pct more.
