Seen this on another forum and dont think it has been covered here yet but could be wrong. Surely this can't be right. The industry is too big and a lot of companies survive by selling parts and service. The article seems to state that if nothing is done about it then this law will come into effect during October 2012!! http://www.the-ace.org.uk/armageddon/#more-901
This topic has crept up a few times down the years, dont think it can happen to an extreme even if they do clamp down on some of the more ropier things that we have travelling MOT's for.
Usually crops up when theres a new Fast and Furious film along with boyracers, speeding and any other fun stuff
Of course it can happen, and it will happen via the backdoor with no input from anyone directly involved if they can help it. The same way they make ridiculous rules like requiring headlamp washers on cars that never had them in the first place !! If they can be that ****ing stupid, they can do anything. Certainly some of the listings they are posting are very recent documents, so I wouldnt be at all surprised if they are trying to push this through. The quieter and more difficult they make it for the public to access, then of course there will be no opposition, so they will think everyone agrees with the new proposals. Yet more arseholes in government doing a great job making stupid rules to keep themselves in jobs. And no opposition ? makes them look even better. The same way they try and push all motoring related laws through on the quiet then pat themselves on the back afterwards, with no doubt a big bonus at the end.
Read those EU documents all the time in work. Had a quick scally through. It's a proposal for consultation on the EU potentially adopting more standarised procedures across Europe for vehicle road worthiness tests. Nothing worth stressing about.
Dunno about it being banned in Mexico, they like their Leon Cupra R's over there near sure I've seen youtube videos of modified ones
California state has a very tight grip on modifying cars dont they? Police can impound your car if they find certain things done to it?
ironic that the only way to fix this, to be legal, would be to MODIFY your car to have headlight washers lol
In Latvia it is illegal to have many aftermarket parts fitted for MOT, e.g. rollcage, coilovers, NOS, bucket seats etc. yet you cannot be done by police for it, you simply will be failed at MOT. Can't see that happening here.
Government policies are a joke for cars now.. But sure if were all going to roll over and take it sure why wouldn't they keep hammering us with more crap policies and regulations until we all have nothing to do apart from work and generate more taxes....
Seems to me that in order to be in charge of a government department you must utterly despise anyone who gets any enjoyment from it.
I think body, suspension etc etc would be no problem. Anything that can affect emissions requires CARB approval. This approval costs many thousands of dollars, but there are aftermarket parts and tuning kits that have acquired this approval and are legal. Obviously they are limited though. Australia and NZ are pretty strict too on lots of modifications. Seems like most owners just drive and take the risks. Guess it just boils down to finding a ballbag cop prepared to do anything about it
Seen this splashed across every forum I browse, general feeling is that it's b0llocks, comes up every year, and with a skint government, under funded and over stretched police across the country, it won't happen. Not to mention that they would lose more in taxes generated by companies making and selling bits than could ever be gained from enforcing these changes, I wouldn't worry about it.
no i was there at the beginning of the summer they have some nice modified cars rolling around, just a lot of them are to poor to afford to drive let alone modify a car but I didn't see any lowered cars with the size of the speed bumps for those huge suv's the taxi companies and americans have
Is car modifying not frowned upon in Holland? In Germany, iirc most aftermarket parts have to be TUV approved, I'm not sure how the government can ban it, but they can certainly introduce tougher and stricter guidlines as to what is acceptable and not, possibly bringing in something like the TUV approval system. At the end of the day if the modifications are done legally, with correct parts and fitting knowledge, are safe and declared to the insurance companies then no-one really has anything to worry about
big can of worms to who done it and how it affects the driving of the car, if it's linked to drivetrain, some cars with huge wheels and hard suspension skip on man hole covers. and your steering for dear lise at speed. unless its all done right with castor camber k.p.i. & 4 wheel alignment ,, and correct fitted rims,, not those poofy things 3sizes smaller. really, sometimes we need to just leave it as the manufacturers built them. and h.i.d.'s ,,, fkn hate them, i told a mate not to fit them, but the plod gave him a ticket, and he decided to push his luck, got a fresh mot with them in,, even mot told them they weren't legal, but it wasn't their concern as long as the light was ok. court came and ho got fined on some conformity to manufacturers law and 300 quid because they didn't have a dome lens and washers. i laughed my arse off,, it could have been put the lights to standard and 30 quid.
