Yeah, saw this a few weeks ago. This should have been what they went for when doing the mk2 Octavia, imo. The mk2 was/is too bulbous and large.

Is this intended to replace the Octavia?

it's aimed at Golf/Focus/Leon buyers. Škoda's go at the small family hatch market. ish.

Agreed, first Kia that has made me stop and stare. Then had a run in a new sportage last week - lovely vehicle as well. Plus a 7 year warranty, what's not to like?

If Kia put some decent bloody wheels on that it would look marvellous.

Never thought I'd desire a Kia but those are great looking.

Parents got a Sportage about 6 months back, they love it.

Nope not a Jetta, it sits on a stretched Polo/Ibiza/A1 platform. So no independent rear suspension :(

SEAT version will be called the Toledo, but again not really a replacement for the old mk1 Leon based Toledos. (lets not mention the monstrosity that was the mk3 Toledo.) Infact with a hatch back it's more like the mk1 Toledo.

It's hard to know really what their aiming at, its kinda between the Fabia and Octavia, or with SEAT the Ibiza and Leon.
Skoda version is nicer though it's clearly a Skoda design.

SEATs attempt (award for most generic looking car ever?)

A normal family saloon is a fantastic idea, I hate the current sized mondeos and so on, far far far to big for a family car as most dont even fit in parking spaces now. People dont realize the Rapid actually the same dimensions as a Volvo 240 estate and its not exactually small and plenty of our generation rocked around a family in them!

Get an estate in them and it will sell like mental.

Horrible ugly thing. And I shouted at everyone within hearing distance when I first saw it in a magazine - "Rapid" has always been used by Skoda for their coupes. Volkswagen screwing around with traditional names again, sticking their fat fingers into business that should have been left well alone. CZ used to be a country with a lot of technical expertise and now they are reduced to churning out leftover Polos.
There is no Skoda anymore, only a badge.

    Urgh, what are they doing?
So, they have a family sized Rapid (I see they stopped short of calling it a Rapide, you know you arent getting any younger when...... you remember those monstrosities!) they have a family sized Octavia and also a slightly larger again family sized Superb... yet only the fabia in the small hatch and no 2/3 door hatches...that all makes great sense.
BTW the mark 1 toledo was a boxy heap, not the nicer mk2 toledo which was on the same floorplan as the leon. Dont get me started on the MK3 bread vans...
