what is the point in these?? if i remember correctly, it was merc that kicked it all off years back, but now most, if not all, of the VAG group seemingly do it

I'm guessing it's to aid visibility. comes on when indicator is being used too.

They can't come on too often, indicators must be an optional extra on some people's cars on my work route!

Hate hate hate these as well along with old cars with stuck on DRL's!!!

I think they can be turned off, mine would be if I owned a new car with them or have them disabled via vagcom!!!

don't mind the foglights when turning but aftermarket DRL's are the worst sight on the road (along with HID's) they're like the new version of undercar neons!

Police pulled in my mate in Portadown carpark one night arguing he was driving with his fogs on! The police thought he was taking the piss when he said about the whole cornering thing!

He fought the law, he won :)

if you cant drive at night without an extra bit of light shining on the road where you cant see anyway, you shouldnt be driving lol

And in all honesty, does it really benefit the driver? it isn't a spot light after all!

Seems to me the only use is for padestrians and other other drivers for people who dont use indicators!

I dont think Ive ever seen these? What are they on? I know the new Polo etc has DRL's where the fog lights used to be etc, but I dont think they "turn"?

They're a bit gimmicky tbh. When I saw the spec list I assumed it'd be those fancy headlights that rotate in their housing but it was just a fog flashing (regardless of whether you've indicated or not). Couldn't really see the point myself but then I haven't driven it at night much.

Great thing is that some of us couldn't give two flying fooks what anyone thinks we look like (y)

Like a 60's citroen, until everyone (except merc obviously) realised that because they were reactive to the drivers input they were crap and nothing more than a gimmick. How many people steer towards something before actually looking at it??

They arent as bad a DRL's....God they are awful. Im sorry, but no matter how much you spend on an Audi with crap left over LED christmas lights plastered all over the front of it, it will always look cheap.

Ive never seen these yet ?

A lot of modern cars are now fitted with a directional lamp to illuminate in the direction you are turning though, and only light up when turning ( linked to indicators )

Fog lights are front facing and low short range lights only ( except when ****ers have them aimed wrong and use them when there is no fog )

It's possible that it's another light in with the fog light that gives a beam out to the side. Haven't really looked at it tbh.

Lyons - any new VAG with what looks like a blown fog light bulb turning a corner = turning light. Lights up the inside of the bend.

Vauxhalls have them too, built into the headlight ( certainly Vectras ). Sure I seen another car with them too just the other day. Great idea really.

    I really hate these too.

If you need them, you shouldn't be driving.

I cant see the point in them, when your driving at night, with your dipped beam on, the fog lights dont make much difference, if im turning a corner im looking a head to make sure im not going to hit something, not looking towards the curb to see it being lit up nicely and being able to see that some scum has scribed there initialls on it

Well you'd be surprised. The older MR2's had them in their foglights (well certainly some as i remember a couple of mine having this) that when you had the fog's on on a backroad and turned the car, the fogs turned with it giving a slightly better illumination. But as said, you were already looking round the bend (or should have been as much as you could) and werent really a big help in the grand scheme of things

Sure its just like a lot of these electronic gizmo's in cars these days, built to break to get the dealer more money to fix and to aid people thinking even less when driving on the roads, but like these frigging 'blind spot warning lights' that are on the new Citreons. WTF?! Unbelievable...
