Im hoping to start the championship next year for bit of fun and am looking for the right car. something cheap so that i could fit it out with buckets and rollcage. was thinking along lines of 106,fiesta or maybe a ka? good handling wee car. anyone any ideas?
Ka would be perfect, and cheap Remember to factor in the costs of the trip (without average speed meter), rally clocks and stop watches for the dash. I wouldnt be overly worried about a cage, i know the idea is for safety, but lets be honest, you shouldnt really be doing more than a 30mph average. Make sure your navigator is up to scratch and you will be fine. Also factor in highlighters, a roamer, a potti, pencils and pens up the ying yang, and maybe even nav lessons for both of you with the likes of RallySchool which used to be run each year by UAC and/or QUBMC. Jonny Wishart used to use a 106 - and to this day i still dont believe it was a 900cc/1l thing, it flew. lol Expect to be constantly paying out for little stupid things you find you need, like interior lights, map lights, map pockets, 3m tape you can write on, a full set of OS maps, and then some more maps after you have scribbled on them. Its fantastic fun, a complete brain fry, but good craic.
Why wait till next year, get out and do some events this year! Cookstown is on the 26th March. Association of Northern Ireland Car Clubs Just use your road car for the first few, no point spending money you dont need to. Most of the nav rallies I've done have been in standard road cars. All you really need is a map, a pencil, a roamer, a head torch and a board to lean on.
What he said . If your new to it, you'll be starting in class 4 and a 'normal' road car is all you'll need. If you like, you can look at doing bits and bobs as and when . For me personally, I'd be lost without a sump guard, trip and clock. But thats just cos i can't drive or count
