My Project Mini update, split rims caged etc

Well as Im definately keeping it thought I would start a progress post....

The car is an 86 mini mayfair. I orignally got the mini around 10 years ago as a standard rotten mini. Was only 11 or so at the time and the plan was to restore it for when I turned 17. Had always wanted one so my dad and my granda set about and found this and brought it home as a suprise.

Anyway had it for years and never did much just kept saving then had it restored in 2001 by Andy Blair. It really was rotten had, 2 wings, 2 apanels, front panel, bonnet, scuttle, drivers door step, drivers door, both outer sills. rear boot floor, rear valance, and some patching here and there, all with rover panels.

Got another faster project mini and ended up selling this one to Simon998 off the site. It was just a restored shell. He painted it surf blue with a white roof and added a few extras. He then sold it to a guy in Belfast. I decided I wanted it back again as my granda had passed away and we had done so much on it together plus it was the 1st car I ever had. Tracked it down and offered andy a deal on a cooper I had at the time.

So finnally have it back. It is solid still few bits starting to bubble but nothing major. The car isn't really to my taste atm so stripping it and making it how I always intended.

Here is the car as it is now, taken on a mini run last summer

The plan is to make it look similar to one of my old minis, except with a black roof. But going for mk1 grille, carbon bonnet, carbon arches, 10x6 mb racing wheels, jewel rear lights, xenon headlights, no spotlights, dowton mirrors. Fast road/track spec engine, track spec brakes and suspension. Interior will be mostly carbon. Already have my buckets and harnesses just need a cage.

It will look similar to my old mini, another one we built from scratch!

Already have new mirrors, quickshift, xenon lights and am making my carbon door cards atm. Plan to paint the wheels silver while Im saving for the new ones as you need the new brakes for them. Also have a plaque being made up for the dash in memory of my granda, its why the car means so much to me

    Thanks for looking!

i remember that blue beast Pete, long time ago now eh!
I like kitted minis myself, but Im biased as I used to own one with a Majic kit
and you just cant beat the sound of a mini with a str8 cut gearbox..............quality!

Sounds good Pete. All the best with it(y) . You have alot of work in front of you. Just watch the carbon stuff as it may take you a while getting the gaps right with it.

why do we ever sell our first minis? i sold mine to a buddy in fivemiletown to be turned into a rally cr i think. Biggest mistake. Got another one last year but was too much work for the place where i was keeping it. Needed better location for it. Stripped it and sold it.

Good luck pete. We've had some hiry sales in the min bins. keep an eye for ya about the town. keep er lit fella.

After not being able to make my mind up about wheel arch combo I finally found a pic that showed me I was making the right decision. Ordered these arches tonight. They are carbon fibre curley onesd for miglia race minis, I will be painting them the same colour as the car like below, going for 10x7" Spectrum racing split rims with polished dish but have to save the pennies for a while first!
