Plus if you don't have the test (all 3 parts) done by 21st Feb this year then you need to do the CBT to be allowed to drive on the road (and its £190)

Some info about it there, its still a bit confusing, but the gist is get the test before 21st Feb and its cheaper,
The idea of the CBT is to enhance the riders awareness skills, in no way a bad thing but riding a bike, for me is only a hobby, seems all my hobbies are getting too dear to afford these days

Bike insurance has messed me about the last year.

Started off at £50 a month for my 600cc, then as soon as October came they were looking £140~ish a month off me, with no explanation. ****ers. Going to have to shop around this year.

190! Was told 100quid for cbt.

If you get a 125 then you need cbt and a provisional license.

You're right about petrol though, ~120mpg on my old 125 and a Tenner a week on a 600 ninja from dundonald to belfast every day with free parking :)

Don't buy a bike until you have your licence and when you are buying one get something cheapish to start as it's likely you will drop it in your first year either on the road or just moving it around, I know a few who have.

Get something with an upright riding position and something not too heavy.

A 600 Honda Hornet or Yamaha Fazer is a good start and the insurance should not be too bad.

If you have never had bikes the speed will shock you, very few cars will keep up with either of those bikes to 100mph.

Take it very easy at the start, it's very easy to wipe yourself out due to no experience!

Cheapest quote this year has been £850. There's no way i'll be keeping the bike if it remains at that...I'm paying nearly HALF that for car insurance

That was paying monthly though right? NCB made a big difference for me, I was paying 500 at 21 on the same bike (y)

    Im not sure,
The way i read it, yes you will need it no matter when you got your licence.

    Does CBT apply to me?
A CBT certificate is required for:

    Motorcycles (Licence Category A1 or A) where;

    • Candidate holds a PROVISIONAL moped licence issued at age 16 prior to 21 February 2011, becomes 17 years of age on or after the 21 February 2011, and wishes to use their new PROVISIONAL motorcycle entitlement; or
    • Candidate holds a PROVISIONAL motorcycle licence (A1 or A) issued on or after the 21 February 2011; or
    • Candidate holds a PROVISIONAL motorcycle licence issued before 21 February 2011 and has not passed the practical off-road and on-road tests by 20 February 2012; or
    • Candidate holds a FULL car licence obtained on or after the 21 February 2011.

Yes it is, ALL L plate riders will need CBT by february.

If anyones thinking of doing their license, do it asap - before it becomes more long winded and even more expensive.

Nah the £881 it actually is, is for the whole year.

That's TPFT too btw. No chance. It's basically 40-50p a mile for insurance. Not worth it.

thats mad, but if you have confirmed with a finance company that that was the price you were paying when purchasing the insurance they shuould not have been able to do that, or were you renewing??
    my first year 2008 with 0 ncb on a 03 cbr600rr at 19 was 815£
    2nd year 2009 with 1 ncb 03 cbr600rr 750£ at 20
3rd year on 2010 with 2 ncb 04 cbr60rr and a 98 hornet at 21 1,400£ dunno how that happend but sure lol
    now onto my 4th year renewed 14th December there 2011 with 3 ncb 04 cbr600rr and 98 hornet at 22 was 750£
    all these tp f&t
i honestly dunno what was going on my 3rd year only ebike would insure me it was 1,000 without the hornet.
possible answer is i had to friends living at my house address with their insurance registered to this house and they both crashed into a jeeps about 4 months apart im thinking this could be why, also i came off my restriction period on the 3rd year but sure lol

When my price suddenly changed, it was on a month-to-month contract, which ebike seem to be decent enough for.
In my opinion the email they responded with was absolutely no explanation at all as to how my policy price went up nearly three fold. Just taking the piss with the renewal quote. I'm 27!! An advanced car driver! No accidents in ten years! Loads of car NCB!
