Been looking at a few vw golfs and anyone ive been to look at have all been near the 100k or over mark and year 2002 gtdti this is all ways been a thing with me when buying a new car thinking for when i go to sell it on after a while the amount of miles that will be on it after me.Vw's seem to hold there value even with big miles compared to other diesels are they that good to spend 4k or more with big miles?
my bora has over 100k on it and still a very nice driving car, just make sure they have been serviced and will be fine im sure
my polo has 110k on it and passed the mot today no worry at all i hope there is a few more miles still in her
i wudnt let it worry you, just dont go for one thats mapped and had a hard life perhaps? also the lower bhp models might be more reliable i had a 98 passt on the 90bhp tdi, not exactly exciting but cost me £500 and had leccy everything, sunroof, windows frt n bk, centre armrest etc etc bought wi 255k at the time i needed summat to run about in and took the risk drove it for a yr replacing one susp arm and a wee turbo boost hose for £13 sold it for £850 wi 278k on it and it looked fairly fresh!! Golf/bora/passat if its been looked after i wouldnt overly worry about the miles
my old a3 had 179k on it and still going strong, original turbo, clutch, geawrbox. it just depends on what type of life they have had. If there serviced well they'll be grand!! tho as mook says, wouldnt buy a car thats had a remap or even a "safe" map.
My bora is on 168k still drives perfectly. The older non pd 90 a nd 110 are probably the strongest engines, but if the pds are well serviced they should last forever as well. Andby well serviced I mean at least every 10k. I wouldn't bother buying one that's been rum on the long life service scheme which is every 20k
Jetta here with 26k on it still fells like new!! mate mk1 has 135k on it he selling 2590 i think and it hasnt missed a beat serviced very 6k by his dad (VW Mec)
Buy on condition/history not miles. You'll be hard pushed to find a clean Golf no matter how many miles on it. Loads of rough ones out there, and I would certainly avoid modded ones
I have just seen a 1999 VW Passat 90bhp Tdi with 300k on it...and it's not a taxi. It's a company car, drives from Grimavady to Belfast everyday...my ole fella does the servicing on it..
i bought my golf with 65k miles on it, now has 127k 3 years later and in that time i've replaced brakes and basically all the suspension in stages and feels nice and tight in that area, moreso than when i bought the car! engine/transmission/electrics all sound so far but it gets a service every 10k or so and has a fairly easy life with mostly m2 miles.. service history indicating suspension work like this being done would be a must if i was looking at a 100k+ mileage car otherwise you'll be out a few hundred getting it driving right again but get the right golf and they are bullet proof!
bought my bora with 64k on it about a year and a half ago now has 93 k on it and serviced everytime the service light comes on lol and its still pulls and goes like the day i bought it
had a 115bhp tdi golf, 187k on it, still ran great and didnt smoke very much, was also mapped from 155k miles and didnt give me any bother apart from a bit of knocking from the suspension bushes.. didnt cost much to put right
Go for one with a FVWSH, the TDI 130's are bullet proof as said will go on forever if serviced when needed
Oh and DONT DONT DONT DONT buy a TDI 150, as Crimson said the 130s are pretty much bullet proof, and the 110/90 Non PDs better again.
Good advice lads thanks what about the seat Leon are they just like a golf but not a golf lol no but i seen this one one on used car ni might give it a look http://www.usedcarsni.com/30878370
if its as genuine as it looks it could be a great buy, altho is it my eyes or are the wheels white? oh aye mine had a tuning box on it at those miles too lol, could still return 60 mpg (on the computer) if u drove like a granny
bought my GT TDI 130 golf with 130+ miles on it and now she has 150 miles. had the car two years and not a blip with the mot or servicing. they just keep going. i"d stay away from the 115 bhp golf as they tend to have problems but were only made for a year i think, so not many about. My golf isn't mapped, had a few friends that have mapped there vws and turbos went in them. so i don't wana touch mine. slow and steady will win the race.
are leons and golfs not the same platform? just the bodys different yeah theyre good for the mileage mate, not the 150s tho but all the other ones.
bought my 90bhp with 132k on it a year ago(miles on a vag mean nothing, or i wouldnt have bought it) and i gave good money for it too!!!!!got it remapped the same day i bought it now has 141k. no problems what so ever had a few derv vags, all this nonsense about it having service history over 100k (altho my golf has)is bollox in my opinion my last a4 had 160k on it,no history, and ran like a watch
Pretty much any car that has been looked after will do big miles. As for miles meaning nothing on a vag? Of course they do, the mileage needs to be backed up by proper servicing and care or the car could be unreliable.
only on fords mucker lol id buy a vag derv any day of the week over a mondeo with the same mileage weather it had history or not, think youll find anyone in the know how would agree, ive owned a few cars in my time paul altho not mint, clean examples like yourself i used to go to your house and take fotos for autotrader a brave few years ago infact 10 years ago
