Posting to see if anyone else has noticed. A friend recently got nabbed by a camera here doing 37 in a 30 which should have been a 40, and it would seem either within days, or maybe hours or even minutes of 30mph signs being fitted. Trying to find that exact date.

It's the dead end area from Magowans entrance and J&F trucks entrance, ie MOT centre etc. That entire area now has 30mph signs at those two entrances. One new sign at one entrance, and 2 new signs at the other, so 3 in total. These seem to have been erected mid September.
Nothing to indicate the speed limit since the dawn of time has been changed..
I PSV'd my van early September and certainly dont recall any signs being there. Mate got nabbed a few days later than that

I emailed the DRD, who claimed the signs were erected early October 2011 with more work carried out Feb 2012.
The signs are brand new, even the tarmac at the new pole is still barely dry ! I emailed them again telling them to give me a truthful factual answer, not one they made up. Waiting on that respnose

Anyone have proper info as to when they went up ?

I then also emailed the Police...

They say it was always a 30, it just never had any signs until now... WTF !!!! They really cannot be serious.

Even when it was a 40 zone it was improperly signed, with no repeater signs anywhere.

So previously an illegal 40 zone, now a poorly signed 30 zone.

And to think, in an area with zero accident history, zero deaths, zero anything.

Main Mallusk road still is and always had been 40 ( unless they suddenly decide to change their minds )

But from the entrance into the industrial estate in front of Magowans, and at J&F Trucks/Hall's Forklift, that area has now became a 30 at some point.

DRD claimed a year ago in an email....Police say it was never signed until recently and the signage is new. Just trying to find the exact date, and was the camera van operating in the area before the signs were changed.

ie Cloughmore Road, Trench rd etc

With you now. I've never known it to be a 30, surely if you turn off the mallusk road which is a 40 and they say the mentioned area has always been a 30, then should there not have been signs in place from day 1 to let you know. Why should that road be a 30 when the main mallusk road even past the we school etc Is a 40? Even down the park road is a 40 and it has houses on it.

That will catch a lot of people out, there's always containers parked on the roadside etc so plenty of places for the speed cops/ vans to setup a sneaky position.

    Exactly my point.

The camera usually sits up at the Roughfort where people come from Templepatrick from an NSL into a 40 ( never heard of an accident there either )

Never once have I seen them outside the school, where the lorries from the Quarry and dump fly past every day in the 40 zone.

Yet where there are in the industrial estate with zero accidents, zero risk they stick a camera in a poorly signed area...I guess purely because they know they'll nab people.
There are no speed camera warning signs, and the Mallusk area is not listed on their website as a camera enforcement area.
They put big signs up to notify of pointless road layout changes which are impossible to miss etc, yet a major change like this and they place badly positioned signs that arent that easy to see, especially travelling from Templepatrick and turning in at Magowans where the quite high sign is actually only in view for about 2 seconds as you turn in, if you're looking up and left.

Yup, but it is unusual for them not to have signs at both sides of the road. And at the Cloughmore road entrance, they went out of their way to install a new pole and sign....even if it is nowhere near straight.

I too have never seen speed traps on that bottom industrial area road and being on the mallusk road everyday for years I can recall only ever seeing one speed trap on the footpath across from magowans.

parents live up in Mallusk, cant say I’ve noticed when the signs went up, my bro @belfast nick might know? but the fact is the Mallusk road does have its fare share of bad accidents (I’ve seen a few)-and in the past fatal aswell
also they do regulary have speed cameras usually near the filling station in the evenings

Not the mallusk road in stevies original post though Chris, it's the road below, ie arco, traynors, oasis I believe is now a 30 zone or always was apparently. Mallusk road is a 40.

Mallusk in it's entirety has always been 40 and fairly well marked.

I must check in a car, but when driving from Templepatrick direction and turning left at Magowans, about 20 yards before the turn there is a 40 sign at normal height.
Then right on the turn the 30 sign is mounted very high on the lamp post. In a van with a large front window the sign is visible for about 2 secs during the turn at 30mph.
In a car with a much smaller window, it might hardly be visible at all. Must check it out tomorrow in the car

Street view is from 2008. There are no signs.

The signs have only been put up in September, proving it and finding an exact date is the awkward bit.

The guy has received the NIP and been told he can do the stupid awareness course instead of points. It just seems ridiculous he should have to accept being guilty when he has done nothing wrong.

I'm almost in disbelief the police stating the road was always a 30...it just never had signposts !!! LOL

The main Mallusk road has 40 signs at regular intervals, with one 20 yards before the turn into the Trench Rd.

Ach you know how it is now a day police ready to bust you for the simplest mistake though I see them racing down the ballymena line on blue only to see them at McDonalds. I've noted as of late that its one rule for police and another for Civ's

Speaking of Mallusk does anyone know the official speed limit of Mayfield Link? My GF was taking driving lessons awhile back and Scullions Road is a 40 then at the lights if you continue on up it changes to Mayfield Link (big road alongside Wilsons Auctions) her instructor told her it is a 40 as it is just a continuation of Scullions Road and there is no signage to indicate otherwise but I'd aruge that because of the proximity of the lamp-posts its a 30mph as its entering a residential area.

    Anyone know?

Nearly 100% sure its a 40 on that road, I'll double check after work though. That's what I thought was weird that it's a 40 zone and her instructor told her to continue up the Link as a 40 when it clearly goes into a busy residential area, the speed some people do up that road is ridiculous, I'm dreading the winter lol

I'll double check that it is a 40 though, near sure I've seen signs before.

Scullions Road is 40, theres a 40 sign just before the laybay as you come off the roundabout. You think theyd put a 30 up on Mayfield Link though, always kids running about
