My M3 LSD is whining and getting worse, , when accelerating and De-cellerating, when the clutch is pressed in it disappears however.. Its pretty loud and i wont be driving it.

I have changed diff oil with correct LSD oil,i think its the front bearing but it could just be the diff as its one wheeling alot, Anyone had similar experiences? Also anyone know of any rebuild kits/clutchs??

I haven't had a chance just yet to get it jacked up, but the gearbox still changes smoothly through all gears, and gear oil was changed just before i bought it.. And the noise is 100% behind me... Im going to get it up tonight and use a stethoscope i have to determine the noise, but im 99.999 its the lsd.. I had a mechanic change the pinion seal for me as i had no time, and im thinking maybe he didnt torque it right(if at all), as if its tightened to much, the bearing **** itself.. :(

Noises around cars are weird things. You can be absolutely sure something is coming from a particular area, only to (eventually) discover you're way off the mark.

Hopefully, whatever it is, you get it sorted (y)

    Could be the propshaft bearing.

I'd say that's more than likely the problem.

Yeah Pablo, thats another one, that failed on my mates e36, when driving lol!!!

I agree Coog, gonna get it jacked it, inspect , remove prop, Mark and undo the front nut, then torque it again.. and see if it lines up.. either way at this point i think i need new bearings..fml!!

Had it up and had someone put it in 1st and release clutch, and the noise is coming from the nose bearing, so i may aswell replace side bearings aswell, pinion seal etc!

May ring BMW and see if they do them..

    Cheers all!

Surely if you take bearings out any bearing place will match them up and give you new ones?

If you're going down the BMW route

Ring JKC, speak to Gary or Steven, tell them Aidan sent you, and mention NI-BMW etc

If Aidan's recommendation doesn't work out, give Davy a ring on 02897 561240 (Railway Auto Spares - BMW specialist and genuine parts supplier) and tell him Nicky sent you. Explain that the nose bearing is going and he'll sort you out...

My friend had a similar problem after he changed the diff oil he then spoke to somebody who recommended castrol b373 so he changed to this and no issues. He said to me if someone had told them the difference that changing this makes he would never of believed it and he is a service manager in suzuki.

I believe BMW won't sell bearing and other diff/gearbox parts individually. It'll be a new diff from them but I'm pretty sure a specialist could re-build it easy enough, that might be your best bet. Remove the diff and take it to a specialist, can't imagine it being too expensive.

I just had a Gearbox put in my E90 M3, £4500 for the parts ALONE! All for the sake of a slight knocking noise while the clutch wasn't depressed. Thank fook for BMW Warranty!
