damn right, some tool in a white leon all done up, was sitting up my hole down the glenavy road on sunday night. i was behind a car doin like 50, normally id be going plenty faster down there, and he was right up my hole looking past, but his ****ing HIDs were dazzling me so much in the mirror i couldnt actually see past the car in front to know if i could overtake or not, so both of us had to sit at 50 the whole way to Antrim. And i was in a rush to get up too ended up being late and he got held up too just cos of his stupid lights probly someone on here in fact, big rims with lip, lowered a lot, possible black roof, twin exhaust and a tuned TDI engine (pretty fast it was)
I only got half way through this thread and couldnt believe the rubbish thats talked about on tinted windows. The law states that any glass or film or coating attached to the glass of any window forward of the B pillar must allow a minimum of 70% transmission of light (30% tint) all other windows can be as dark as you like. The front sun visor can be as dark as you like as long as the standard wiper sweep does not come in contact with it. Most cars are fitted with around 10% tinted glass from the factory so you can only fit a light smoke tint to the front glass forward of the B pillar. If the Police officer does not have any way of measuring the tint then he has no evidence to prove the offences and therefore has no power to enforce any sactions or issue a ticket, if however he uses a 'Tintman' measuring device he can issue you with a Vehicle Defect Rectification Scheme form which will give you 10 days to remove the tint to a legal level, if however he is an Authorised Officer then he has the power to put certain conditions on the movement of the vehicle until the tint is removed, this could include forbidding the vehicle from being driven on the road during the hours of darkness and issue you with a £60 ticket and 3 points for "failing to have a proper view" If you display an R or L plate in the back window and it is obstructed by heavy tint you can get a £60 ticket and two points for failing to display. I hope this sorts it out once and for all.
cars factory standard tint's are higher than that mines 22% common ones are 19-22% but some mercs, chrylers etc are far more. should be under the guide lines of the car manufactures
Siedie, don't want to doubt your readings, but I think you'll find if the manufacturer states "tinted windows" it may well be 19 to 22% however if you get a car with what appears to be untinted glass it will be about 10%.This is to avoid drivers being sunburnt through the windows of their car. At least thats what they teach on the tintman course!!!!
cops pulled me for tints i'd 50% light smoke on the front light transmission down to 40.6%. peeled them off on the road and tested my front window and two sides all came up showing 78% light transmission. thats what there tint meter reading came up as.
Your car must have "tinted windows" as I said before "Standard" glass has about 10% tint. If you had 50% tint (thats not light smoke) and the light transmission was down to 40.6% (thats 59.4% tint) if you take your 50% tint off then you should be left with 9.4%tint. Did the officers clean the window after you removed the tint? Did they recalibrate the device, if the batteries are getting low then the light source starts to dim and gives a higher tint reading.
ive no idea, it states no where that my car had anything but what it came with from the factory. he tested the front and one side one due to the glue was covering most the windows still. came up at that level.
Just found this, check out the link for the final answer to all your questions: http://www.dvtani.gov.uk/uploads/publications/general/TintedWindows.pdf
I had a bit of an aguement with a guy the other day as he said His sister just failed her mot due to having the rear side windows tinted . No tints on front just the rear. I told him he was talking shoite but he assured me and swears blind she did. If it had have been me i dont think i would have took that . I must find out what test centre it was for definate but i think it was boucher .
Not happy !!! Just been to Boucher Road for an MOT and was told to remove the front tints or I would not get the MOT certificate. Basically take it or leave it. So I removed them. Now I have the stickiest windows in Belfast, any ideas on how to get rid of the mess ??? Totally angry :-(
I'm sure the examiner would have quite happily given you an invite for £18.50 if you really wanted it.... Here's one for you all to discuss, tinted windows on commerical vehicles is now legal....
