That what I have top unit. Can run up a 500gb iirc hard drive threw the usb connection, so all the music and films you could want. Plus the optional blue tooth hand free kit is a good job, it can even play mp3 from you phone

kenwood 522 is a sure winner.

i personally couldnt be arsed with 2 separate units to save a bit of wedge

if your car takes double din then buy a kenwood 5022... i just sold my 522dvd and bought a 5022 for the ep3

yeah a double din seems good they are cheaper by the look of it too

some of the pioneer ones look good

it has to be able to play films and music from usb tho not just music

no you would need to go the 5220 for that.

also, those are all now old stock, the 522 is now a 524, the 5022 is now a 5024 and so on :)

and prices on the newer stuff is a lot more due to exchange rates, so if someone has old stock at the old price, snap it up :D

the kenwood units are far superior to the pioneer both in user menus and playback, picture quality is also better. and they wil play divx off usb no sweat

well now that 5022 does look the job if it can play all the movies and vids i have downloaded off a flash drive that is just what i need.

can you load pics into it and set them as the background and stuff?

also do you need an additional usb cable to use a flash drive or does one come with it

there seems to be a couple places online have them

i always thought kenwood were a lower end make and pioneer were better? have had pioneer in normal head units before and no probs there

My 522 can have user defined background images, just transfer a jpeg from usb

My 522 came with usb lead, ipod lead and video leads for external video source.

Worth mentioning the USB or hard drive has to be formatted FAT32 to work

is that not a normal type of formatting then?

whats the biggest Gb you can put on it?

I think i will go for the double din 5022. It didnt mention anything about coming with a usb lead to run to the glove box or anywhere so i was just wondering about that lol

pumesta is your man for the hardrive size, as hes done it :)

kenwood have been for the past few years miles and miles ahead of the competition in terms of value for money in terms of features per pound.

and the quality of their latest sets audio wise is superb... when i changed from alpine to kenwood i couldnt believe the improvement in the sound of my system

From memory it can handle about 500gb, although I only have a 40gb and that has all the music and video's I need on it and still have about 15gb left.

FAT32 file structure is the format used by windows millienum and before. XP and I assume Vista will format it but will partition the disc in 32GB sections. The head unit will only recognise one partition, so I got a free program of the net to format the drive as one partition. Also the headunit will recognise the ID tags in mp3 too, so it will display album art, artist name, album etc.

lol the sega is awesome i was thinking about getting a power inverter and putting a slim ps2 in but a megadrive would be way better or a snes lol

how did you wire in your power inverter? is it hard wired into the car?

i checked my flash drive that i usually use on my vista pc there and it says file format fat32 but its only a 4 Gb so dont know about the 32Gb sections

im gonna be buying a bigger flash drive or card hard drive to use with the new head unit

thats a great idea actually it would be way cheaper than a power inverter and all that ****.

does it just have a yellow red and white phono coming out of it then?

might have to get one of those i think we have them in my work :D

well ive just bought a kenwood ddx-5022 double din

think it said on the site it had standard iso connections but is there extra things you need to wire up as well as them?

does it have one of those bloody handbrake wires? or one of those big brain box things seperate from it?

It will have the handbrake wire, just earth it to a screw or something behind the dash. Mine doesn't have the separate 'brainbox'

stick the green handbrake wire to the black earth wire and tape it up, then u can watch dvd on the move and if u fit a phone kit to it also, u can use all functions while moving.

no hideaway boxes, 1 loom, plug and play in less than 15mins.

the only bad thing with a 5022 is the non motorized front, in some cars it sits at a funny angle which can be annoying but most are grand.

love mine in the civic :)
