nothing wrong with a wee bit of haggling, everyone likes to get a bargain or at least likes to think they are gettin a bargain, if i have a car that my rock bottom price for is £500 i put it on for £750 to £800 as i know the kinda offers you get from gumtree 9 times out of 10 il get what my rock bottom I ususally get a tad more than my rock bottom and the buyer thinks he's got a bargain by knocking £200 of the price..... everyones a winner. my price if i advertise a car on here though is always less than my gumtree price and usually more honest.
yeah thats the way everyone works it, its when you advertise for £4950 for example, prepared to get £4250 but hopinng for a little more, and you get 'I really cant go above £3000'
well he had the wheels 2months payed £500 for them had them on car 3weeks and set in his shed over winter so were no good sitting there sold them and put the £400 towards this lol...new money buys new goods imo http://www.reallymeansounds.com/forum/threads/white-eg9-sir-ferio.130787/
Aye I would always tell them the same thing mate. I've no issue giving out my rock bottom price and being honest about it. That's the bottom price and no-one will get it for less.
Aye in that case there's not a lot you can do but laugh at him, lock the car and go back into the house.
I've only ever sold 2 cars privately- a £500 Micra on behalf of a family friend, and my Golf (only because I was downgrading- I always trade in). Both were sold to the first buyer, for the figure I was prepared to go down to. If you price it right to begin with you shouldnt have too much bother.
I have advertised in UCNI & Gumtree & I found the time that I had it on UCNI I got double the amount of stupid questions .. I swear "I got what is the milage on the car" & "is it taxed" when it says on the advert all the relivant details are on the advert. The worst ones are ones who ask a million questions then when I say "you're best looking at the car for yourself" .. f*** off & are never heard from today. I'd love to jump down the phone & smack the f***ers at the other end sometimes.
Gumtree is a magnet for mongs I had 2 people ring me up and inform me what my cars worth they weren't even gona buy it! Wtf 90% are time wasters sitting at home texting stupid offers of 60% of the asking price.
Unfortunately its a buyers a market at the moment, the demand for some of our cars just isnt there anymore. Ive sold 4 cars in the past year and have come victim to some of these idiots you are all talking about. Whether its a cheap run around, a modern car, a mint classic or a high performance machine you always get these arses that try to screw you. And it doesnt matter where you adertise them
It`s not only joe public that are out to waste your time, there are plenty of back street traders wheeling and dealing in some shoddy cars and punting them over the phone as mint
This thread reads like a 'what did you do at work this week' for me The only answer really is this - don't answer texts. Save messers numbers and then you'll know straight away the next time. Saves me a lot of hassle, still get some but cuts out 50% of it.
Had to laugh yesterday when a fella rang about a horse my woman has for sale. Convo was short and sweet: Me - "Hello..." Him - "Is that the person with the grey mare for sale..?" Me - "It is indeed." Him - "Would ya take any less for it..?" Me - "Erm, the price is negotiable, as with most things, but what were you thinking...?" Him - "Ya take a grand for it?" Me - "You taking the p!ss...? You haven't even asked anything about the horse, you haven't been to see or ride the horse, you don't even know what it's like..." Him - "Aye, but nothings selling anywhere these days and I'm after a bargain..." Me - "Try Gumtree... There's a Freebie section on there... Good luck..." Now bare in mind, this is an animal which is up for £3k, has a video of it and a few pics in the advert and some info, but the advert has been kept short and sweet as there's not really much you can say or ask without actually coming to see it, as with most animals. The guy has never rang before (have most of the number's from genuine buyers/time wasters saved in the old phone to keep track of who's who), certainly hasn't seen the horse and his number came up on a quick Google search that he's some kind of builder from around Derry, so I doubt he knows the horse from any events or the likes as everything it has ever done has been local..
Had a viewing of my 306 gti6 which specifically included the words NOT DIESEL in the title. Yup, after a few minutes he found out she was no friend of the black pump. Clampit. Or a 'member' on here who i met to view a sub and amp, as he 'couldn't afford the petrol to travel any further than holywood' - i'm in bangor. After listening to his bangin' tunes for a few minutes, we agreed a price. But surprise, surprise he'd no money on him. He'd be paid on friday...so i'd 100% hang on to friday, mate, mucker etc, etc. Come friday, even after a mid week text confirming the sale and asking me to pull out as much cable and wiring as i could to go with the sale, he hadn't he decency to let me know he'd bought elsewhere. Toss pot, but i learnt a lot after that. He'll end up with ear aids anyway after listening to that muck for much longer.
Had a few time wasters b4 with motors and had my time wasted before with sellers as well (off rms also lol) Suppose it's part of the game at the end of the day
Been there.. Was selling a Ford Granada hearse for £800 (it was bought for the 2.9 V6 engine, but was higher mileage than first thought) and a fella came down and test drove it, poked about for half an hour. I then put it on the ramp and let him have an even better look around it. Basically went far and beyond the needful to get a sale of a £600 motor, but I thought I would oblige as the ramp was there anyway... It had 7 or 8 months test and a few months tax left on it, and had just had a brave bit of work done to it prior to me owning it too... After he had been there for an hour, he asked what the least I'd take for it and was told £600 to get it out of the road as it was a cumbersome big brute sitting about the yard. He offered £200 with a straight face, so I pushed the button to drop the garage door, walked straight past him and went into the house...
gumtree is mostly full of bellends, that seems to be the rule of thumb with it. I sell alot of wheels and a good few cars and parts, and no end I am pestered with swaps for stuff i do not want, or offers of 50%-60% of the asking price without asking any questions or seeing the car. Had a great experience the other day though, had a text asking to keep the car for them to view, offering £30 less than the asking price. They landed up, had a wee look over the car and took it for a spin, walked back in the house and said theres your money, and then went on to explain they werent being cheeky offering £30 less but that was just because it wasnt taxed! I was over the moon lol I wouldnt avoid gumtree as a means of advertising, as you could be cutting out a genuine buyer by not doing it
