How do you prefer to advertise your car when selling it? Long speach & list of modifications? or keep it simple? What kind of ad attracts you? Cause I've tried it all & got nothing but timewasters. 25 total different people have rang/text me about it my car. One guy even text me about viewing it, never did, advertised he was looking for a non-turbo starlet a week later & i text him, 2 weeks after he sent another text "have you got a starlet for sale?" & was due to view it the next day & never did. it's really taking the p*** now. Out of all those people, 1 viewed it, loved it, was due to make an offer & text me the next day saying they didn't have the money or something to that effect. Theres nothing wrong with the car, its actually genuinly a clean we car & runs perfect.. but nobody is viewing it to find out for themselves after all these texts & calls. Is there any way to stop these timewasters?! It's putting my head away.
A starlet. I don't think that'd matter really though, i mean there might not be a high demand for them, but if someone is even texting they must have some sort of interest in it..
i was asking as im looking for a cheap runabout, with regards to the time wasters, no you cant really but you have to take the good with the bad im affraid, with every 20 time wasters there will be one genuine person
It's been in every advert that i've posted up so far & hasn't stopped them. I've sold cars without half the number of time wasters before. What the hell is going on?! lol
having the same problems here daniel mate atm there is no real way to stop it unfortunatly sad fact of living in northern ireland
Ah right, well maybe the fact its not as cheap as the odd £700 standard starlet with over a 100k on it is why people don't want it, because they aren't worried about quality in a run about. You're right, its just never been this extreme with time wasters before.
your car is just a basic starlet tho the wheels you have put on and seats dont add value probably put people off tbh just looks like boy racer car now. i would put if back to standard and reduce the price to get it sold.hope this helps i know what your going through as i sold a starlet recently took a while and a big reduction in price but the first person out did buy.ps shame you didnt make it a sr replica as they look sweet in white with the sticker kit.
Nightmare selling a car privately, what pisses me off is the endless list of losers who communicate by email, ask for all sorts of information that takes time pull together and then they don't ever respond again. Knobs.
Don't have anything standard but the airbox left.. & I'm refusing to sell it for less than I bought it just because theres been a lot of work, effor, time & money put into it. I'm in no rush, I'm happy to keep it till I get the money I want. I'm just sick of time wasters who say they'll view it but dont or text & act genuinly interested when they aren't. If you knew what some of the texts said & even some of the things people have said on the phone, you'd think that money wasn't the issue for them. It's such a pain.
text sent to ya chum, also if you can print an A4 flyer out, on the side of the window should attract more geniune buyers, as this way they have seen the car first hand, and know the condition of it. so aren't offering stupid money for something they have never seen. They will repsect your price more when they see the car
at the end of the day bud this happens had loads of timewasters after strickly sayin in capital letters no timewasters when i was selling the tsport just gotta deal with it unfortunately
I usually find putting no time wasters usually does sort them out. But a well written advert with ALL the right information usually means less but more genuine phone calls.
Cheers Sye, yeah I tried the sale signs before with no luck, but no harm giving it another go. Yeah Allan, it's hard to avoid. I just seem to be getting double the amount of time wasters lately. Yeah Jas, did that too. They seem more genuine, but then they don't stick to their word about coming up to view it still.
where do i start ! just had one an hour ago , you usually know its of to a time waster special when it starts with a txt . followed by whats your best price , so i reply with im sorry but if you would like to view the car thats fantastic but if your going to ask 1000 questions im not interested .. when i buy a car il maybe text is the car forsale followed by a phone call this shows that both parties are keen .. tho ive even had that with no show ... tho i find this usually works ABSOLOUTELY NO TIMEWASTERS !!! but you will still get them im afraid
Its a pain but part of selling cars tho, Have made money of time wasters before, one fella left a deposits on a car, rang a few days later apologised and said to keep the deposit, it covered the costs of all the advertising so i wasn't complaining
There's something about the NI culture - everyone thinks they're a car dealer either in reality (will come and look but offer about half of the price in case you're stupid or desperate enough) or in fantasy (want to haggle about the price on the phone even tho' they've never even seen the car and have no intention of coming). Sometimes hidden in the vast minority lies a genuine buyer. Then on the other hand, some sellers also think their driveway is Bavarian which means that any potential buyer who doesn't instantly buy the car at the specified price must be a timewaster and punished by the inevitable 'readvertised due to timewaster' ad on gumtree. TBH because of all this BS it's easier to take a hit and trade it in.
i had my civic up for sale as i was due to buy a dc2, the timewasters i had were unreal to the stage where i simply decided to keep the car and remove it from gumtree, getting pestered by felters wanting to px with their 306s and cash, think i had 3 of them, others offerering ridiculously low prices around 2/3 of what i was wanting and after pretty much being told to politely bugger off id get a reply saying "but il colect 2nit wit cash m8!" out of maybe 6 people who were interested only got as far as letting one come view who searched the car top to toe looking for the tinyest faults to try get 100s knocked off, things as minimal as a milk stain in the back seat from my daughter which happened since i shampooed all the seats the week before, needless to say he left with no car and i walked back into the house with a sigh of relief knowing some ballbag wouldnt be the new owner of my pride and joy
