Right I got a passat B4 estate on monday and put my alpine headunit in it on tuesday morning and when I was driving to coleraine on tuesday afternoon it just cut out and wouldn't come back on.

Came home this afternoon and changed the fuse (even though it wasnt broke) tried the headunit in another car (and it still works) so its definately something wrong with the passat.

Now the headunit wasnt in tight as I rushed it on tuesday morning but at the same time it wasnt sliding in and out so im not sure if some part of the loom has been damaged but from what I cans see it looks fine.

So im clean out of ideas can anyone HELP!!! lol

    Cheers
    Chris

    then its a wiring problem

trace the wires as far back as you can and check for no cuts or tears

Was it the fuse on the headunit you changed or the fuse in the actual car? Had similar problems when putting headunit in my 306 the fuse in the car blew twice in the space of half an hour.

If there is no power getting to the headunit and the fuses are ok im guessing its a problem with the ignition live wire in the loom.

yea as andy said check the live wire! same problem happened to me and it was the live wire that needed replaced. Only thing was i took it somewhere to get fixed and lost £30 for doing so

The ignition live wire in the loom of the car or the loom of the headunit.

Both fuses are fine so its not an issue there.

Would it still be an ignition live wire problem if the headunit worked for a while and then cut out?

Yes mine worked for a wile then just stopped i have no ignition live now and have to manually switch the headunit on was a pain in the ass at first but got used to it.

You would need to check both the headunit loom and the loom of the car just to be sure.

Cheers I will have a check tomorrow morning.

IIRC there is an issue with VW ignitions. When I wired my mates headunit in his mk3 I had to do a bit of chopping and crimping because VW's run the opposite to most stuff.

Dont know much about VWs tbh but whatever trained chimp was at the loom in my 306 had it hacked up to bits was a bloody nightmare.
