My problem is that when I open the driver’s door of the Golf it drops slightly and when closing it touches the top of the B pillar but does close tight. I have tried to open and move the hinges up but the holes are not elongated so they don’t move.

Has anyone else had this problem? Is it two new hinges or can I just buy new pins?

    Thanks for any help

jack the bottom of the door with a plank along the underside. this will correct the hinges - do it a wee bit at a time as u dont want to over correct

or u can just stick a wheel stud in the bottom hinge and pull the door. this will also cause the door to lift.again its trial n error do a wee bit at a time. if you over correct u can put the stud in the top hinge and it will drop the door

Ok tried to jack the door but this did not help I have a bit that will open the bolts but have to put a spanner on it as there is not enough room to get the socket driver in. My problem is I can open bolt 2 but this only moves the door out and in. I can’t get the socket in to open bolt 1. Any help would be great.

    the hinges are sagged.

u need to lift the door as already said. ur number 1 bolts to move ud really need to remove the door and theres another coming from inside as well.

shouldnt need to move these tho, just lift the door

Thread resurrection - I've got the same problem (mk4 golf)- the top hinge needs replaced as it's badly worn.

Anyone done this? The top hinge has two bolts on the car side, one seems to come from the inside, is it a dash out job to get access?

If your flexible enough, get under the dash with a torch and have a look up and see.

Its a wonder why they ever bolted them from the inside when making those things...

Update - did as you suggested Nicky - stripped the lower half of the dash and had a look.
There's some electrics and a plate blocking the xzn bolt but after a lot of faffing and cut knuckles got the bolt out with an extension bar and UJ.
New hinge in place and loosely bolted, just need to align it now.
    Thanks for the help(y)

    Good man.

If you can close the door and tighten the bolts from the inside with it in the locked position, you shouldn't be far off.

The pin wears in them. Re-adjusting or trying to bend the hinges back is the wrong way to go about it. They'll just keep getting worse because of the excessive play in them.

The hinges aren't that dear from VW. Go and get new ones with new pins and refit the door.

Aye, bending hinges and/or doors didn't appeal to me tbh so got the new hinge from VW, it was £19 iirc.
