Went to see a runaround yesterday and done a history check this morning. Everything seems ok apart from the gap between 2009 and 2012 in the mileage history: 74,000 miles recorded on 16 Mar 2012 33,000 miles recorded on 3 Mar 2009 32,901 miles recorded on 2 Dec 2008 33,000 miles recorded on 10 Nov 2008 30,934 miles recorded on 12 Aug 2008 29,264 miles recorded on 4 Jul 2008 27,776 miles recorded on 5 Jun 2008 27,338 miles recorded on 22 May 2008 21,992 miles recorded on 10 Oct 2007 15,359 miles recorded on 20 Apr 2007 Should I be suspicious? The car seems sound enough but it's hard to tell. Opinions?
What happened in 2008?! What car is it and how much money? I'd certainly be wary of it at the very least.
Might be worth a ring, could be a typo (the 2008) or they genuinely forgot to add in 2010-12. For me what they say on the phone when confronted with it would decide if I see it or not.
Quoted from my car check site: "Please note that mileages are supplied by third parties and are not validated."
There's definately typo's in that. The mileage drops between August then November and December and then it's the same as November 08 in March 09. It's all over the place. I wouldn't rely on that at all!
phone them - i was up recently with eden about another car and they were happy to show the books and help go over any history there was. Even still, if in doubt walk away
Yeah we've been to see it and it drives well and seems like a genuine enough car. Just wanted to be sure and alarm bells started ringing when I ran the check this morning.
That came out wrong. Should have said a car that she can keep for a year and not lose £2000 on when selling on!
33,000 miles recorded on 3 Mar 2009 32,901 miles recorded on 2 Dec 2008 33,000 miles recorded on 10 Nov 2008 ????????
Just ring him and have him quickly run through the service book while you check what the online tool is saying.
Be grateful there's any kind of history with it. Find out which garage done the services and get them to confirm what their records show, if they can. Failing that, consider it to have no history and buy it based on what you see/it's current condition/how it drives etc, as the majority of folk would do.
I know quite a few but they all say that VOSA's database can't be checked on their system. The car is English and has just been brought over recently.
You could plug it in to Vagcom and see what mileage the car has recorded if your worried about that end of things. Its most probable the car changed ownership in 2009 to someone who didnt record service work. Is there a service book in the car? If so what does it have in it? I don't think its exactly think its fair for people to announce that the dealer may have clocked the car when they know very little about it - thats an illegal offense, and this is a public forum - I'd be pretty pissed if someone was suggesting one of my cars was clocked on the basis that it didnt have a full history. Plenty of cars don't have a fully recorded service history, not everyones as fastidious about it as most car enthusiasts.
I'm not suggesting that the current dealer has clocked the car If only mate. It wouldn't be girly enough for her!
