fitted a mutant sub and amp combo to my brothers mates car and all is wired up correctly but once the phonos are plugged in the power light is flickering from red to green and the sub is vibrating on its own. we've tried a new set of phonos but still getting the same. Can anyone offer any advice or point me in the direction of someone who can fix it? also tried adjusting the gain and frequency but just doesnt seem to like it. the headunit is an argos special alba if it helps
is the car on when it does this?? if so you may need a ground loop isolater if its off just double check all cables and that your ampage is right and the argos special probably isnt helping matters lol
seems to be working now ok, with the frequency at 50 hz and the gain not very high. fingers crossed it stays working. its a brand new amp con.
ok so still getting the same problem, going to change the power lead now. a friend was telling me that my remote wire may be connected into the wrong cable. i have it connected to the power antenna cable, is this ok? where else would be appropriate if it's wrong? theres no dedicated remote wire and i dont want to mess around with the power cables.
power antenna will only work when the radio is selected. as a test disconnect the rem from the amp and run a small wire from the + of the amp to the rem of the amp. This will make it be perm on but will rule out the HU remote output.
that makes perfect sense, cheers pablo! meant to add also that the power lead has blown a fuse a few times, could this be due to the cause? where could i take a remote source from on the head unit?
you might be as well just using the IGN on feed as a remote. The amp will be on when the ignition is on. You might get a little turn on thump tho is the only problem.
if your fuse is blowing on the power lead ,make sure it is matched to that on the amplifier. Also make sure the rca cable is ran down the opposite side of the car, basic thing, but can help avoid the interference from the power wire. Argos Alba cd player.. didnt know they even did one...
yeh always ran my cables on opposite ends, changed the power lead to the one that came with the car which was heavier gauge with a bigger fuse. changed the remote cable to the IGN liveand still the amp flickers in and out of protection mode, next step, amp is away being replaced as i type. if this fails, could it be the fact the battery in the car is on its last legs?
Have you checked to make sure it isn't the subwoofer causing the grief? and not the amp/headunit. Had that issue with an old kenwood. amp kept going into protect mode, I had managed to 'cook' the subwoofer
could be a faulty sub, shorting out. or stray strands at the sub connections. Id have tried it with the sub disconnected, and the RCAs disconnected then connect each up and see which is the problem.
will do that next if all fails, cheers. lost my bloody wallet today too, i may just hang myself instead lol
Think the wallet would be the priority right now chum haha As myself, and Pablo said, should work (process of elimination) Ive a feeling thats the cause tho. If you can borrow a sub from a friend that will help you figure out.
amp was daffy ducked, fuse holder wasnt correctly fitted and the gain and freq screws werent working at all so all changed and fitted and working well. Thanks for the help syecadelic and pablo! Now just to find my wallet
Daffy Ducked, this made me laugh glad you got it sorted, im sure you would have got their by urself (=
