The gf had a lady drive into the driver door of her MkI MX5, and she admitted liability. Left the car into a certain insurance approved repairer for a week to be repaired.

When we got it back it looked like it had been done by Stevie Wonder:

    1. They sprayed the driver side door, wing and quarter panel and the colour match is miles out (I'd used halfords tins on the rear bumper which were a closer match!)
    2. They'd buffed through some of the paint on the front bumper
    3. There was overspray on the front alloy and roof
    4. There was one noticable paint run
I rang them for her and they told her to bring it over. She did so today and they told her they could put it all right bar the colour match and I quote "It would have taken us a day to mix the paint to get it to match, sorry luv".

Now, from my point of view the accident wasn't her fault, the car was all the one colour when it was left in and in my opinion it should all be the one colour after the repair.

Should the whole car need done to achieve this, or a day spent mixing paint - it should be at the other parties insurers expense.

So not amused. Anyone any experience of this sort of thing and if so what course of action did you take?

    Cheers
    Jamesy

tell them that unless they put it straight , whether or not it takes the day to mix the paint then you will seek legal action, they then might **** it and do the work.

that's a joke, what shop was this ?

i had the side of my KA painted at least 12 times by lindsays in 3 sittings due to a default in the paint from new, i kept sending it back till it was right as it was a brand new car so stand yer grund and mention legal action on getting a colour match as the job they done will devalue the 2nd hand money f the car

Sounds like the quality job Wright's at Carryduff did on my Astra. Colour was a mile out, still bare metal on the door pillar, more dust inside the car than inside a Dyson. Real cockup of a job.

" Mr Garage Owner it's not been fixed right.. i'd like you to take the car and do it properly or i'll contact the insurance company and inform them that you and you're staff do not have the skills to repair cars to an acceptable standard"

This repairer probably gets a lot of business from insurance companies. If they lean on him to sort it, chances are he will. Hope you can get it sorted.

im a painter m8,it wouldnt take a day to mix the paint anyone with abit of experience in mixing paint would be able to add afew more tinters to change the colour accordingly.as for the overspray and burn through thats just down to bad prep work and lazy workmanship.its crazy the state sum bodyshops try to give a car back in.sometimes they think they can get away with it with lady owners and elderly people cuz they wont notice.ur in every right to just keep taking it back until its to your standards

i had a bad experience with agnews body shop repair, just while we are naming and shaming, i refused it the first time cause it was chipped and all sorts where they squeezed the bumper on, then went and collected in and in the light it looked ok, got it home and the colour match is ****e. not too fussed as im handing it back to the finance company and bought it from agnews so if theyre not happy they can take it up between themselves.

Also make sure to complain to the insurance company as they will withhold payment for the repairs from the approved bodyshop until its put right, can be the extra bit of leverage you need to get it sorted.

did u sign a form to say you were satisfied with the job?

if not they wont get paid............same sorta thing happened to a guy i work with,in a bangor bodyshop told him they couldnt get his bumper to match the color of the rest of the car,its red,he didnt sign the form and its still on going..........

    unless they forge your signature.........

my advice take it somewere else and get it done right, the insurance co just wont pay him and they should pay another approved shop to do it right...........fact.....

I say name and shame no point concealing them as other people might use them or maybe other people will come forward with more horror stories.

Point is you pay money to get something right and then get a 2nd class job ... shouldnt happen in this day and age, local businesses should be striving to do 100% jobs with the way this recession is going ...

Seamy, I'm not sure what she signed (if anything) when she lifted the car. She's going to ring the insurance co tomorrow and see what they say (and tell them not to go paying any invoices just yet :p )

Want to give them the chance to put it right before I go slating them on a forum.

Getting too soft in my old age!

Had problems in the past with Hursts and Wrights (Dromore), The Hursts one, we contacted the insurance company, who sent out an accessor, and it went back to them 3 times until He and ultimately I was happy, it was a front end shunt.

Wrights Were another story, they rebuilt my engine 3 times and it still wasn't fixed properly, was a company car, they lost patience and sent it to auction.

My advice.... first port of contact... the garage, see if they'll put it right without any threat.

    2nd.... Contact the insurance company

    3rd..... Trading standards

Good luck, hope you've got plenty of diazepan to hand lol

    +1

I'd say the comment about "sorry it'd take a day to mix the paint" counts as Step 1 - I'd be straight onto your insurance company and inform them of what's they done wrong and what they said when you took it back.

They should ring the manager of the body shop then and get it sorted.

oh, and name the buggers here!
