on the look out for a diesel car in around the £6.5k mark. wouldnt really like to go below 03, and dont want really want to go above 100k. ( i think second hand diesel cars have went up in price compared to a few years ago, must be the credit crunch)
    so far i've found an

    03 audi a3 with 90k
    04 audi a4 with 98k
    03 vauxhall vectra with 60k
    05 vectra with 78k

anyone any other suggetions? or does anyone know any common problems with the above? i have heard about wiring problems on vectra's.

Does it have to be a big 4 door lad?

£6.5k would get you a much younger fabia vrs or ibiza FR with half the miles of any of the above, and theyll have the same PD130 lump as the a4 and a3.

connor, na mate it doesnt have to be 5 door at all. been looking on used cars ni and the trader but theres not much selection for unnder £6.5k that i can see. (i dont like silver cars..lol) never actually looked for fabia's or bora's, saw an ibiza fr, but it didnt have any service history. it was a black one from dunmurray on gumtree. must have a scout for a fabia and bora at breaktime.

If you're going for a Vectra, avoid the 1.9CDTI 16v 150hp - they're a world of hurt with EGR and inlet manifolds. The 1.9CDTI 8v 120hp are fine. Not sure what the craic is with wiring faults on the Vectra, I've never heard of much going wrong apart from injector wiring on the 1.9-150.

Considered a Skoda Octavia, or even a Superb. Superb is a rebadged Passat B5.5 more or less.

Oh aye, and don't go for anything other than a SRI in the Vectra, unless you like wallowy uncontrollable handling. SRI have different shocks, springs and bushes in the UK.

What about a MK5 Golf GT TDI or TDI - you should get a TDI easily for that kind of money, I got my GT TDI for 7.2K about 8 mths ago

this man speaks the truth - dealers over here take the pi$$ due to the small size of NI, they buy cars from the mainland transport them over here and put a rediculous markup on them as they know a majority of punters would pay their price rather than go to the trouble of travelling to the mainland to get a better deal

What about a mondeo ST if you could get one for that price but might be a bit more around 7-8k

Or just a normal nice mondeo?

Would be wary of what i go to England for, as a mate of mine just sold his Santa Fe to an English dealer for £5400 (the going rate over here for the year, mileage, condition etc). He flew over, bought the jeep, drove it back and apparently had it sold a few days later for £7k+.

Not always cheaper over there (n)

@conor - i wouldnt have the time to head to england to get a car, tho i have seen on autotrader and pistonheads that cars usually go for cheaper over there with less mileage. Is that were you got the fabia from?
@ crimson - golf tdi's are shocking money atm.
@david - had a mondeo before, great car with all the extras. was looking at the 2.2 st versions but there still over my budget.
@jason, - theres an 03 a3 in gumtree for sale i'm gonig to see on fri, yellow, 90k for £6400 with full heated leather. full history etc. so we'll see how that goes.
@jacko - send me the details dude. cheers

Tis indeed, its less than a day mate. Dad goes over and back all the time, usually leaves the house about 6 and he almost always bes home for his dinner or slightly after it.
