just wanting an opinion on whether its worth taking this any further. Basically, there are roads works outside my house at the moment. One side of the road is closed, leaving one lane on a traffic light contraflow. Now the lane is pretty narrow, so much so, that any lorries going through it are having to use the footpath (although the kerb unto the footpath is a lowered 'driveway' type kerb). Last night i was going through it, and i caught the kerb on the way through. torn sidewall and damage to the rim . I took a look at the kerbs this morning, and they have started to loosen and come up, i'd assume with all the lorries trapsing over them. as a result, there are loads of edges that have started to appear, as some come up, and some compress. I assume this is what i caught . Is this something i can go to the road service with? is it worth the time/effort, and what is the procedure? I'd really just like the tyre paid for to be honest. Can live with the rim as there are worse marks already!
Whos doing the road works? To be honest I reckon DRD will pass it off to them, and doubt you'd get anywhere. It might be worth phoning your local section office and asking for advice. Not related, but if you damage your wheel on any street furniture (metal lids etc) all claims are handed over to the company that installed the utility.
Roads Service are ultimatelty responsible, so get photo evidence of the damage to your car and also of the offending kerb, ideally with a measuring tape etc beside it to show the depth of the kerb that you had to negotiate. You should get refunded for the damage, keep on their case though or you'll get nowhere.
Cheers guys. Have photos of the damage, will take some of the kerbs etc, although... i sorta assumed it would by something like the above... not sure if i want to go through all that for a tyre, might just chalk it up to 'sh*t happens'. No idea who's doing it to be honest Lyons. 3 blokes in a white van, which i'm sure narrows it down
I'd definitely pursue it Andy, you might as well. My wife needed a new tyre after a rock protruding from the verge wrecked hers and I'm about to submit a form for her. They can only say no!
get a local counsellor involved to help, the blame lies with the contractor. drd send info to contractor, they then pass it onto a sub contractor who then pass it down to another sub contractor lol
the very same. Kerbs are getting worse and worse every day on it. Am going to fill in a form with the accompanying photos and see how we get on .
i agree, right where you were going to drive! you would think they would have thought about that back in 1863 when they placed that post there......
