Brother needs 4 tyres and has narrowed it down to these 245/40/18's Anyone any experience of these, both seem to get good overall reviews, Perhaps the Avons slightly better but did read a couple of people say they didnt last long? Anyone personal experience? Any if there are any tyre dealers in here, prices would be a bonus.
I had 452's on my CSL and the only thing I could fault them on was trackwork. They'd go off relatively quickly but then I was used to Cups on track, so maybe it was normal for them to overheat early on. Every other situation, they were good and had a very good wear rate. The rears done around 15K or so and the front I still have, but have gone back to cup and I reckon those done close to 20K also. that's with normal road driving, sometimes spirited, track driving, 1/4 miles even, winter, rain, summer. I'm expecting the 453's to be even better. No info on the Avons however. I'd go for the 453's on a 'Normal' car again but for the CSL and M3 I'd rather stick to premium tyres.
I have avon's at the minute, seem very good in wet and dry. Can't comment on life span as I have only had them a few weeks. Have never had the falkens.
Dad had Avon zz3's fitted to his mondeo and thought they where an excellent tyre and know a guy who has avon z5's and says there decent so I think you wouldn't have many problems with Avons
I had Avon zz3s on my last golf and had no complaints. My current golf had falkens when I bought it and I didn't rate them at all in the wet. Mind you it wasn't really their fault, they were just too long new!
I also had avon zz3's on the gti 6 and it was the best money i spent on her. Hope to fit 4 on the astra next week
I'm running avons on my polo learner car 185/60/14 and they are great tyres, hold very well into corners (when I'm driving) don't wear out to quick and even hitting them off a kerb doesn't damage them, I've been running the same brand for two years and not even a punture, plus apparently avons cover you for puntures or so Magowans tyres were telling me
