Considering installing a double din unit into an Astra H (Mk5)

Remember noseying before but can't remember the info.

I want to know if anybody here has tried, and succeeded with an after market option which allows the song information to be displayed on the standard display which would usually display the information on the astrsa.
Also, not too familiar with the car, but can the clock etc still be changed without the OEM headunit installed?

Gearing towards a Pioneer double din as I have one myself and think there super.

Cost isnt a big issue at the minute, just researching.

Also will be having to purchase the steering wheel interface adaptor, this isn't an issue.

    Cheers

    Sye

I know any i have seen installed just display the song info on the new headunit but still display the date, time and temperature on the original display at the top of the dash.

There is possibly an adapter to allow it to display on the original screen alongside the time etc.....

Not sure on the song information, but on my C2, the time, date etc is changed through the oem hu which I didn't have, I got a lead from connects2 that enabled the steering controls to do this.

And you didnt think to ask me??? :p

There is a few Aplines that do, with a special patch lead display the track info on the display, though unsure of numbers etc. though as graham said it will still display date, and the On board computer functions (MPG, etc) if the car is spec'd with them.

And the clock display can only be changed on certain headunits, some can be changed via steering controls some cant.... and its pretty much hit and miss which ones allow you to do it. Though if you are smart with your wiring you can fit the old h/u in seconds change time and reconnect up the aftermarket with out removing the headunit ;) Disconnecting the battery, and reconnecting it at midnight doesnt work i tried this on mine lol

And if you use a Pioneer i have a Pioneer - Vauxhall patch lead for steering controls came out of mine ;)

    Cheers for the responce guys,

I know about hte steering lead, got one on my own :) Thanks

James, my bad :( Heard of alpines being compatible, but from what i've seen the adapter is expensive as anything.
Sure the patch lead is only a couple quid, usually comes inclusive with the adapter when buying from fleebaby

It'l be a few months down the line before anything gets done.. student loan and saving for now

Yeah the alpine adaptors are expensive, and I meant the full loom not just the patch lead, Canbus block to a Pioneer headunit with steering controls etc. plug and play no need for extra wiring as some do. Cost me £60 when i bought it

    Edit:::

Also the double din dash kits are pretty dear too, your talking about another 30-40quid for one, as the double din Cage usually doesnt fit the vauxhall hole you need a new cage and dash piece.

Another one option to look at if you want to keep the info.... im 90% sure that the likes of the VXMII and Ennon Units do this, as well as steering controls. with OEM look to them, and plug and play no dash kits or extra looms.... though you do pay about 600quid for one. Not something id buy personally as its no good if you change car (unless to another astra or vauxhall) were 600quid could get you a fairly decent double din Pioneer or similar that could fit into just about any car! but its another avenue to look at!!

Think id prefer sticking to the Pioneer, i know they work 100%

Canbus lead? does the standard ISO looms not just plug and play more or less, i know theres a power wire needs swapped or something stupid like the corsa iirc

aware of the cage and surround, it wont be an issue :)

    Thanks

Yeah, the vxmii units arent bad but there layout could be improved, were as pioneer are great! Be hard to pull me away from Pioneer units!

Canbus lock above Is what plugs into the vauxhall loom. which then goes down to the standard iso looms for the headunit. the one i have has no need to swap wires or connect anything else too it, just plug it into the car and into the headunit, plug in steering control jack and away it goes.

Just thought id mention the cage etc, thought you might have known but ive had many people ask me... then they near have a heart attack when you tell them all the extras they need to make it fit lol.
