A BUSY SEASON AHEAD AT KIRKISTOWN...

Racegoers can look forward to a very busy 2012 season at Kirkistown Circuit; the Formula Ford SuperSeries is coming to the County Down venue in April.

This new motor racing championship will be fought out over four rounds with visits also to Croix en Ternois in France, Monza in Italy and Brands Hatch.

The 500 Motor Racing Club of Ireland who own and run race meetings at Kirkistown are delighted with the news, especially as the opening round will be at Kirkistown.

Throughout the 2012 motor racing season once again Formula Ford will feature strongly on the programme, with a number of double headers.

Saloon racing is to be even stronger in 2012 with the Kirkistown Saloon Championship going from strength and a new class for Ford Fiestas is set to hit the track.

The brainchild of former Metro racer Roy Smyth a good grid is expected for the opening meeting in March.

A new class for 1600cc Honda Civics will further boost the Kirkistown Saloon Championship grid and in the GT class a number of Mazda MX5s are set to make their debut.

Roadsports produced large grids in 2011, they will be back with a number of double headers and at the final meeting of the season in October there will be a single race with a different twist.

Race goers will be able to see the Scottish Sportscars and Saloons in action in May while at the June meeting the Scottish Classic Sportscars will make their first appearance at Kirkistown.

Once again the southern based championships will be coming north, headed by Formula Libre, also returning Formula Vees, Formula Sheanes, Ginetta Juniors and Irish Historics.

Adding to the spectacle at the April, June and July meetings will be gearbox karts, racing across two classes, 125cc and 250cc.

Short circuit kart meetings will be held on February 11, March 10, April 21 and May 12, November 10 and December 8.

Four sprints are on the busy calendar, March 24, June 30, July 1 and September 29. The March, June and September events will be rounds of the ANICC Sprint Championship, while the June and July events will also be rounds of the British Sprint Championship and the Irish Sprint and Hillclimb Championship.

    Race meeting dates: March 31; April 28; May 26; June 23; July 21; August 25, October 6.
